Should You Bulk-buy Vapes Before the Ban?

The disposable vape ban on June 1st naturally raises many questions for vapers who prefer to use disposables. Some are unsure about what product they will switch to after the ban comes into effect, and many are considering stockpiling their favourite disposables to have a ready supply after June 1.

Majority of Vapers Plan to Stockpile

We surveyed disposable vape users across the UK and found that:

  • A significant majority of disposable vape users (82%) say they are preparing to stockpile ahead of the disposable vape ban.
  • 37% say they will stock-pile enough to last 3 months, and 28% intend to buy enough to last more than six months.
  • The behaviour spans every demographic, but it’s 45–54-year-olds leading the trend, with 89% saying they’ll stock up.
  • When choosing alternatives after the ban, nearly half of vape users (47%) say they will pick a product that closely mimics their current disposable.
  • 41% will prioritise finding the same flavour, regardless of brand.
  • More than a third (34%) said they would consider buying an illegal disposable vape after the ban.

Thinking of Stockpiling? Here's What You Need to Know First

But is stockpiling disposable vapes wise?

Here, we answer some of your most popular questions about safely stocking up on your favourite disposables:

Can I bulk-buy disposable vapes?

Yes, you can legally order as many vapes as you like up until the ban on June 1st.

How many vapes should I order at once?

While you can legally buy as many disposable vapes as you wish, you should consider the possible risks of stockpiling large numbers of vapes.

Are there risks associated with stockpiling disposable vapes?

There can be risks to stockpiling large quantities of vapes if you do not store them correctly.

In some cases, stockpiling disposable vapes incorrectly could trigger fires, toxic gas releases, or even explosions.

Fire services have warned that storing vapes in confined or unventilated spaces, like under stairs or in cupboards, could increase the risk of a fire.

Why are disposable vapes risky, but other products are not?

It’s the batteries. Vapes contain lithium-ion batteries, which can become unstable when exposed to heat, moisture, or physical damage.

How long do disposable vapes last?

Disposable vapes typically have a shelf life of 12 to 24 months, so your vape should last that long, but poor storage conditions can shorten that dramatically.

How should I store disposable vapes?

If you are planning on stocking up on disposable vapes, make sure you store them safely.

You should store vapes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or sources of heat.

Ideally, they should not be stored together in bulk. The packaging should never be pierced or crushed.

Simple safety steps like ventilation and proper handling can make all the difference.

Can I still buy vapes after the disposable ban?

Yes, you can still buy vapes after the ban, just not vapes that are classed as disposable or single-use. Pre-filled and refillable vape systems provide a similar experience to disposables, and are not just kinder to the environment, but to your wallet too.

Safely Disposing of Disposable Vapes

It is important to dispose of your vapes in a safe and sustainable way. Vapes should always be recycled in appropriate facilities. You can read more about safe recycling in this article: How to Recycle Vapes | Haypp UK Take-Back Scheme

Remember, you should only purchase vapes from a responsible retailer so you can be sure they meet quality and safety standards.
