ALP Pouches: Pros and Cons

Pros

✓ Mint flavours held their character across the majority of our timed test sessions - Chilled Mint and Mountain Wintergreen in particular showed consistent flavour presence through to 35 minutes

✓ The moist slim format produced less drip than we expected — pouches sat comfortably without requiring adjustment in our tests

✓ The listed range includes 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg strengths

✓ The mint flavours we reviewed were meaningfully different from one another, including sweet mint, spearmint, and wintergreen

✓ 20 pouches per can

Cons

✗ Fruit flavours (Tropical Fruit and Cherries & Berries) faded more quickly than mint in our timed tests — Tropical Fruit averaged around 25 minutes of clear flavour versus 35+ minutes for the mint variants

✗ The moist format means flavour activation is relatively quick - users who prefer a gradual, drier build may find the onset more pronounced than with drier formats

✗ ALP is a newer brand in the UK market, so there is less independent long-term user data available than for more established brands.

ALP Nicotine Pouches: Our Expert Review

Packaging and First Impression

ALP uses a straightforward cylindrical can with clear flavour and strength labelling. The cans are distinct enough to identify by flavour category — mint and fruit options use different visual treatments — while the overall design is minimalist rather than heavily branded. The disposal compartment in the lid functions as standard.

Pouch Format and Mouthfeel

ALP pouches are slim and moist, which is a design characteristic that differentiates them from drier formats. In our testing, the moist format produced a softer pouch that sat flat under the lip throughout the session. Fill distribution was even across all pouches we tested, with no bunching or uneven texture.
Drip was lower than we anticipated from a moist format. None of our testers needed to remove or reposition pouches during the session because of drip.

Flavour

In our assessment, the mint range was the most consistent part of the tested selection. The five mint variants — Chilled Mint, Spearmint, Sweet Mint, Mountain Wintergreen, and Frostbite — cover different flavour profiles rather than small variations on a single mint character.
The fruit variants performed well on initial flavour accuracy but faded more quickly in our timed tests. Cherries & Berries had a clear cherry and berry character that held for around 25–30 minutes. Tropical Fruit was lighter, with a multi-fruit note that was present but less pronounced during the middle of the session than the mint alternatives.
Across both categories, flavour was noticeable from placement without a lengthy activation period, which was consistent with the moist format.

Duration

Across all flavours tested, noticeable flavour lasted approximately 25–40 minutes. Mint variants consistently performed at the upper end of this range. Fruit variants sat between 25 and 30 minutes before flavour became noticeably lighter.
These are manufacturer-independent timing observations from our test sessions.

Strength

ALP is listed on Haypp UK at 6mg (Normal), 12mg (Extra Strong), and 18mg (Ultra Strong). Our review tested the 6mg and 12mg tiers.
The 6mg pouches were assessed as Normal strength in our review. The 12mg pouches were assessed as Extra Strong.
We did not test the 18mg tier, so our testing does not provide first-hand observations for that strength. See Haypp’s nicotine strength guide for the stated strength categories.

We Tried the ALP Flavours

ALP Chilled Mint Review

Taste: A peppermint-forward flavour with a cooling menthol flavour element. The peppermint note was the most prominent throughout our test session, with the menthol adding a secondary cooling presence rather than dominating.Pouch feel: Soft and moist from placement. Low drip throughout a 35-minute session.

Cooling: Present from the first few minutes. Chilled Mint sat at a moderate cooling level in our testing, below the strongest cooling mint flavour in the range.

Flavour Duration: 35 minutes of clear flavour in our testing before noticeably fading.
Strength tested: 12mg (Extra Strong)

Our Take: “Chilled Mint provided a balanced combination of peppermint and menthol in our testing and remained consistent through most of the session.”

Best Suited To: Adult users who prefer a clear peppermint and menthol flavour at Extra Strong strength.

    ALP Spearmint Review

Taste: A sweeter, rounder mint flavour than Chilled Mint. Spearmint character is the lead note without a pronounced menthol element — closer to a traditional spearmint than a cool mint blend.

Pouch Feel: Soft, moist slim format. Stable throughout the session.

Cooling: Lower than Chilled Mint in our testing, with a lighter cooling element.

Flavour Duration: 30–35 minutes in our testing.

    Strength Tested: 6mg (Normal)

Our Take: “ALP Spearmint at 6mg combines the lowest tested strength with a less cooling flavour note than most of the other ALP mint options we reviewed.”

Best Suited To: Adult users who prefer a sweeter, less cooling mint flavour and want a Normal nicotine strength option.

      ALP Mountain Wintergreen Review

Taste: Wintergreen is a flavour that is less common among mainstream brands in the UK market and more common across the Atlantic. ALP Mountain Wintergreen has a distinctive character — herbal, slightly sweet, and different from the peppermint and spearmint options. For those unfamiliar with wintergreen, the flavour sits between mint and botanical flavours.

Pouch Feel: Moist slim format, consistent with the rest of the ALP range.

Cooling: Moderate in our testing — lower than Chilled Mint and more noticeable than Spearmint.

Flavour Duration: 35–40 minutes in our testing — the longest of the five products we reviewed.
      Strength tested: 12mg (Extra Strong)

Our Take: “Mountain Wintergreen was the most distinctive flavour among the five products we tested and differed clearly from the peppermint and spearmint options.”

Best Suited To: Adult users who want to compare a wintergreen flavour with more conventional mint flavours.

        ALP Tropical Fruit Review

Taste: A multi-fruit tropical flavour profile — light rather than sweet-heavy, with mango and citrus notes that were identifiable in the first 15–20 minutes before the taste became more general fruit in character.

Pouch Feel: Consistent with the rest of the ALP range — moist slim format, stable.

Cooling: Light — less cooling presence than the mint options.

Flavour Duration: “Around 25 minutes of clear flavour before fading noticeably in our testing. This was the shortest duration of the five products we reviewed.”

        Strength Tested: 6mg (Normal)

Our Take: Tropical Fruit was lighter and less assertive than the mint variants in our testing. It performed clearly at the start of the session but faded sooner.

Best Suited To: Adult users who prefer a lighter, fruit-forward flavoured snus over mint.

          ALP Cherries & Berries Review

Taste: Cherry is the lead flavour note with a berry element in the background. The cherry character is distinctly sweet-fruit rather than sour and reads as cherry flavour rather than a darker berry flavour.

Pouch Feel: Same moist slim format as the rest of the range.

Cooling: Minimal. No notable cooling element in this flavour.

Flavour Duration: 25–30 minutes in our testing.

          Strength Tested: 12mg (Extra Strong)

Our Take: Cherries & Berries delivered the clearest fruit flavour character of the two fruit products we tested. Its duration was on the shorter end compared with the mint range.

Best Suited To: Adult users who prefer fruit over mint and want a cherry-forward flavour at Extra Strong strength.

Ollie: “Mountain Wintergreen was the standout for me as it’s doing something different to most pouches in the UK market and the duration held up well across my tests. The moist format will take adjustment if you’re coming from ZYN, but I didn’t find the drip level an issue once I’d used a couple.”

Maddie: “The pouch format is the main differentiator here. Softer and more moist than anything else I regularly test, and the drip was better controlled than I expected. Chilled Mint at 12mg was my preference with a clear flavour that held its character well past 30 minutes.”

Sophie: “I prefer drier pouches, so ALP isn’t naturally my format. That said, the Spearmint at 6mg was a fair entry point and the flavour was accurate. The fruit options faded faster than I’d want for the amount I use pouches throughout the day.”

How Does ALP Compare With Other Nicotine Pouches?

Factor ALP Chilled Mint 12mg ZYN Cool Mint 9mg

            Pouches Per Can 20 20

Both are some of the most popular snus flavours available, but the main practical difference is format. ZYN Cool Mint is dry and Slim, while ALP Chilled Mint is moist and Slim. In our testing, ALP’s flavour was noticeable earlier in the session, while the ZYN product tested lasted longer.
The strength difference is also material to the comparison: 12mg per pouch versus 9mg per pouch. Readers comparing the products should therefore consider both format and stated nicotine content.

            Moisture Moist Moist
Duration (Tested) 35-40 minutes 35-40 minutes

Comparing ALP to VELO (one of the best snus brands in the UK) shows that both products use a moist slim format and had similar tested durations. The main difference is flavour category: VELO Crispy Peppermint is a peppermint flavoured pouch, while ALP Mountain Wintergreen uses a wintergreen flavour.

            Is ALP Right for You?

ALP may suit adult nicotine pouch users who:

            • Prefer a moist Slim format with faster flavour activation than drier formats.
            • Want to compare different mint flavours, including spearmint, peppermint and wintergreen.
            • Want a choice of the listed Normal, Extra Strong and Ultra Strong strengths.
            • Prefer a can containing 20 pouches.

ALP may be less relevant to adult nicotine pouch users who:

            • Prefer a drier pouch format and a more gradual flavour build.
            • Primarily choose fruit flavours and prefer longer flavour duration — our testing found fruit variants faded faster than the mint range.
            • Want a wider selection of non-mint flavour profiles — based on the range assessed for this review, mint flavours make up the larger part of the selection.

            ALP Review: Final Verdict

In our testing, ALP combined a moist Slim format with relatively quick flavour activation. The mint variants were more consistent over a full session, while Tropical Fruit and Cherries & Berries faded sooner.

The main difference for readers to consider is format: ALP’s moist Slim pouches feel and perform differently from drier formats, while flavour duration also varied across the range we tested.

Mountain Wintergreen produced the longest flavour duration in our five-product test, while Chilled Mint delivered a conventional peppermint and menthol profile.

              FAQs

              Are ALP nicotine pouches good?

Based on our testing, ALP performed consistently across the mint range, particularly for flavour consistency and pouch feel. The moist Slim format was the clearest practical difference we observed.

Which ALP flavour stood out in testing?

Mountain Wintergreen stood out in our testing because of its distinctive flavour profile and 35–40 minute flavour duration. Chilled Mint delivered a more conventional peppermint and menthol profile.

              How strong are ALP pouches?

ALP is listed on Haypp UK at 6mg (Normal), 12mg (Extra Strong), and 18mg (Ultra Strong). Our review tested the 6mg and 12mg tiers.

How long do ALP pouches last?

In our timed testing, mint variants lasted approximately 30–40 minutes and fruit variants approximately 25–30 minutes. Duration varies between products and individual use.

Are ALP pouches moist or dry?

ALP pouches are moist. This was one of the clearest format characteristics in our testing, and drip was lower than we expected from a moist product.

What do ALP pouches taste like?

The tested range included peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, tropical fruit, and cherry and berry profiles. Flavour was noticeable from placement in our tests, with mint variants generally remaining more consistent through the session.

ALP nicotine pouches are intended for adult nicotine users only. Contains nicotine, which is an addictive substance. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
