Are nicotine pouches safe?

The most important thing to know about nicotine pouches is that they do not contain tobacco and are therefore different from other similar products on the market. So, let us look more closely at nicotine itself.

Benefits of nicotine pouches

Most importantly, nicotine pouches will give you a nicotine buzz that you want.

Nicotine pouches are non-combustible, which is a perk when you find yourself in a public space. They are very discreet, and so no one around you should even suspect that you are using a pouch under your lip (unless they study your top lip very closely). Thus, they can even be used indoors, such as in restaurants and cafes. You can avoid yellow teeth since nicotine pouches are all white. So, you can use nicotine pouches and still enjoy a pearly white smile.

Side effects of nicotine pouches

Of course, as with everything, there are side effects to using nicotine pouches. Firstly, it is important to know that nicotine is highly addictive and, as such, can be very difficult to quit. Withdrawal symptoms include nausea, irritability and anxiety, as well as raised blood pressure and an increased heartbeat.

If you are just starting out with nicotine pouches, you may experience a slight tingling or burning sensation under your top lip. As your body is still not accustomed to nicotine pouches yet, it is merely reacting to the nicotine being absorbed. Flavours such as mint and menthol may heighten this burning sensation. If you feel some discomfort, try to place the pouch in another area of the lip, drink some water, rub the area lightly to remove any nicotine traces, and spit out any excess nicotine.

As with all products that contain nicotine, pregnant women are recommended to stay away from nicotine pouches, in order to protect their unborn child from absorbing any of the nicotine.

Consuming too much nicotine at once can also cause nicotine poisoning. If this happens, it is best for the user to seek medical care. Symptoms of nicotine poisoning include (but are not limited to) dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting and tremors.

As with all things, nicotine pouches have both positive and negative aspects, and so the old adage "everything in moderation" is best applied here.
